And it begins...

School starts today! My last semester (if I pass all of my classes) at SUU is finally here. Whew. I thought this day would never come and now it's here! I'm taking some pretty rad classes and I'm excited for something to keep me busy at work but I'm mostly excited that I don't have to work weekends anymore.

Monday is the worst day out of the week for lots of reasons:

  • Post Secret comes out on Sunday. Why? I wish it could come on Monday so I would have something to look forward to on this dreadful day. Frank, get on it.
  • I have to come back to work. And I'm really tired.
I guess Monday isn't so horrible since I can only think of two things...so whatever. Here's to my (hopefully) last semester of undergrad. Unless I decide to get a second Bachelors degree, which I hope I don't because I'm pretty sure that would be worthless. I guess only time will tell.

I'm going to California for my birthday and I am stoked. This week better fly on by!

Silver Lining Kind of Day...

Last night as I walked into work, I stepped in a pile of tomato sauce on the floor that no one had thought to mop up. Gross, but whatever. Then I noticed that absolutely nothing had been done or moved, including the food on the roller grill, since I had left that morning almost 17 hours prior. After a few minutes or hours of complaining to my girlfriend, I cleaned the place up and did the jobs that no one else was going to do. Things started to get better.

Then, later last night, someone that I have no desire to have contact with popped up out of no where. Why? I have no idea. It made me feel weird and very uncomfortable. Luckily Sof came to the rescue, as always. I got off work this morning and was feeling better about life.

After sleeping for a few hours and getting home from my meeting, I was determined to have a good evening before coming back to work. Rocko hadn't really been outside a lot, so I took him on a walk. It was such a nice night and I was enjoying the stroll until I literally thought I was going to have to shit on the lawn by Rocko. I practically ran home and didn't leave the bathroom for an hour...the rest is history.

After a failed attempt at a nap, I took Calv out in the backyard to brush him because he is shedding like a mad man. After a few minutes, I felt someone watching me. I discovered my, probably really nice, old, creepy neighbor staring at me. As I started to get up to go inside, he came over to start another awkward conversation. In the last two weeks or so, we have had our first meeting/conversations and we have both lived there for two years. I'm not sure why he's creepin' now, but it's weird. More weird that he's probably seen me naked, but whatever. Gag.

Back in bed for another attempt at sleep before work. Fairly successful and I even slept longer than planned. Sof saved my ass again and called to wake me up. I rushed to the bathroom to shower and you'll never believe what happened....the light flicked on and then off. Sweet. I showered in the dark and then dug in the closet for some light bulbs. As I was looking, I realized that in the two years I've lived in this apartment I have never had to change that light bulb. I guess that's the silver lining? But mostly that I made it to work in time and even put on a clean shirt.

Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, I had a creeper at work. I'm used to the creepy truckers who think I want to date them. I'm used to the drunk/high/whatever dudes that come in the middle of the night and think I want to sleep with them. That's old news. It's just the non-truckers that really freak me out. They have no reason to be here and yet, they are and they are gross. After politely telling him I didn't want to date him or have a threesome with him, he left and I called Sof.

This day seems like a nightmare that came true. I know that just one of these events in a singular day would be nothing more than a good laugh, but all of them in one day just seems too much to even be real. I checked the moon to see if that's why it was creep day but it's not full. Not even a little bit.

So, as I sit here at the truck stop wishing I was home in bed I just have to laugh. I know I'm being dramatic and that I probably just need sleep, but man...life is funny sometimes. Right now I'm grateful that I have a job, even if it really sucks big time right now. I'm grateful that I don't have to keep people from my past in my life and that I'm happier than I ever thought I could be without them. I'm really grateful for indoor plumbing and for Imodium. I am definitely grateful for blinds (even though I need curtains- coming soon). I'm grateful for electricity and light bulbs, even though my shower in the dark was quite nice. I'm grateful that I'm not a lot lizard at the truck stop and that I don't have to flirt with the creepy peeps in here.

Mostly, I'm just grateful that I didn't forget to wear pants to work today. Seems like that's the only thing else that could have gone wrong. I wonder what tomorrow holds...

i'm back

I'm back. I was planning to start a new blog but the thought of doing that made me sick. I have a lot of things on this blog that I love and I didn't want to just forget about it; I'm also lazy. I don't remember the last time I posted; my journal got a lot of TLC in my "blog break", which I'm grateful for. I like to journal but it takes more work than posting a blog. So here I am.

Life is good. Great, actually.

I get to do so many fun things with so many amazing people. I really couldn't ask for anything more. Sometimes I get frustrated that my life seems to be at a stand-still. Then I just look back over the last year and I get to see that, in fact, everything I wanted a year ago has happened plus some!

On Sunday I got to take Joey to a Horizon House Alumni picnic in St. George. I am so lucky to have him in my life; we had a great time hanging out. Plus, he thinks he met a quarterback who is "better than Tebow"...needless to say, Joey loved it. I can't believe he's going to be 19 in a few days! I'm grateful that I'll get to spend his special day with him this year.

Easter this year was a success. It was simple and fun. I got to spend time with the people I love and I worked. Beats the hell out of waking up in jail, still drunk and unsure of why I was there...I'm sure my dad was grateful, too. ha

Last night Enna and I went to Little Women put on by SUU. It wasn't great but it was fun to get out and do something different. I used to love that movie and the book so maybe my expectations were a little warped. The orchestra did a great job..I was a little worried because before the play started they sounded less-than-good, but they were great.

I'm planning a trip to Las Vegas with my bestie. We're gonna sip Cola by the pool and soak up some rays. It'll be strange being in Vegas but I think it'll be a much needed vacation. I'm excited!

I don't really have much to say except that I'm grateful for all the wonderful people in my life. I could list them all but they know who they are. Time is flying! It's almost been a year since I've been back in Utah.

Until next time, peace out.

holy bananas

Joey and I on the way to the dance!

I just stopped for like 2 seconds to think about my life and I realized that I'm happy! For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say that I'm truly happy. Sometimes I get so caught up in the things I have going on that I don't take time to notice how I feel or what I think...sounds weird, but it's true. A few things happened this weekend that definitely made me glad to be sober and that I get to be doing something different; I don't get to drink when I'm bored or lonely, but it seems that I don't get bored anymore and I'm only lonely if I choose to be. Life is good and I'm very blessed! Holy cow, bring on the good times!

cupcakes and rainbows

I was late for work again today. That's twice in a row. At least today I was only 5 minutes late instead of 30 minutes late. I don't know what's wrong with me lately- usually I'm 20 minutes early. I feel tired and cracked out all the time. I can't seem to stop coughing and I can't even take NyQuil (or anything for that matter) so that I can fall asleep. I think I'm on my death bed right now. If you saw me right now, you'd understand.

I need a vacation. A real vacation. Not the kind that makes you more tired after you get home. I want to go somewhere by myself for like a week and sleep, read, eat good food, catch some rays, and sleep some more. Is that too much to ask? I'm planning it. Stay posted for details.

In other news, I will be making like 500 cupcakes to sell at the Sub4Santa fundraiser on December 10th. Who wants to have a cupcake baking/decorating party with me?? It will be so much fun....I have some ideas.

This week I have been able to hang out with my grandpa quite a bit. I like that. I wish that our hang out sessions didn't include the hospital, but they do and I'll take what I can get. Joey, Enna, and I are going to put up my grandpa and grandma's Christmas tree next week! I used to love helping them do that and I'm excited to do it this year.

Calvie is back to full health, as far as I can tell. He's back to running around and torturing Gretchen. I thought he'd go right back to biting and clawing me, but so far he has remained a little cuddle bug. He follows me everywhere and cuddles up to me. I love it. A lot. Pretty sure I love my cat more than you. Unless you're Joey. You might be tied with Calv, but he's up there.

I got 7 months sober today. I woke up to a text from my dad that reminded me. I have just been looking forward to 9 months because that's when I get my next chip in AA, but it was a nice little boost to remember that I have 7 months! Thanks father.

I have been listening to a country song on repeat for like 7 hours. More like 10 days, but I still love it. I'm sure it'll wear off soon.....I hope.

I miss Jordan a lot today. Darn.

Bored at work. Can you tell what it says? haha

Tuesday already?

Seems like my "day off" isn't really a day off at all. I want a vacation!

  • I'm grateful that I got to spend time with my grandpa today.
  • I'm grateful that I got to show up and be there for gramps when he needed someone.
  • I'm grateful that I believe what I believe.
  • I'm grateful to have good health.
  • I'm grateful to still have all my grandparents.
  • I'm grateful I was able to sneak away and go to the noon AA meeting.
  • I'm grateful that I got to sleep. I may have wasted my night off doing it, but it sure felt good.
  • I'm grateful for my roomie. She did my dishes. Lots of them.
  • I'm grateful for lotion. I love it.
  • I'm grateful for yarn? haha
  • I'm grateful for diet Coke. What would my life be like without it?
  • I'm grateful for my dad. He's the best person I know.
  • I'm grateful for my grandma. It was so cute to see her kiss my grandpa goodbye today when I picked him up. I love how in love they are, even after all these years.
  • I'm grateful for family. My family.
  • I'm grateful I bought a groupon coupon for Dairy Queen a few weeks ago. I used it today and it was well worth it.
  • I'm grateful for Calv. He's a butt head sometimes, but he's so cute when he's sleeping on the pillow next to me.
  • I'm grateful to have an HP that loves everyone. Including me.
  • I'm just grateful today, that's all.

Life is funny sometimes...

Last night my grandma called my cell phone.
Now, to most this would not seem out of the ordinary, but for me it's pretty epic. Last I knew my grandma thought that in order to call my cell phone she had to call from a cell phone too. She doesn't have a cell phone so I don't think she's ever actually called me until tonight. Weird.

Anyway, she called me and I was shocked. She asked me to go to a concert with her because my grandpa wouldn't go with her...typical. I couldn't go to the concert because I had committed to be somewhere else at the same time. I tried to find my grandma a date and it didn't work.

Now it's 10 hours later and I feel awful. I really love my grandma and would have loved to go with her to the concert. I know that I don't have much time left with her (she's old) and I feel sad and a little guilty that I didn't get to go.

The point of this little story is that I wish I could be in like 10 places at once. I mean I could be at the concert, an AA meeting, work, HHW carving pumpkins (which, BTW, was a blast), sleeping, hangin' with Joey, in Vegas, in SLC to go to Lagoon, etc. But instead I get to be in one place. I get to be in Cedar City, Utah, working at a truck stop and crocheting an afghan that I'm going to try to sell on Esty because my sister said that I could make some money.

This week I'm gonna make time to go see my grandma. I don't wanna regret not being able to hang out with her tonight...life is just too short to have regrets, I suppose.

Moral of the story?
Go call/visit your grandma.  (this is a note to self, mostly)
